St John's council members resign en masse
Almost the entire council of Sydney
University's St John's College has quit, saying the recent resignations
of the college's six clerical fellows means they can no longer do their
jobs, reports the ABC.
The clerical fellows resigned last week at the request of Catholic
Archbishop George Pell after a series of damaging incidents came to
light.
In a statement yesterday, former chairman Christine Liddy said the
council no longer had a legal quorum and was incapable of carrying out
its legal obligations to the college and students.
Christine Liddy said all but one of the council's lay fellows have resigned, according to an AAP report in The Sydney Morning Herald.
