The Cardinal of Vienna, Christoph Schoenborn, President of the
Austrian Episcopal Conference gave a speech at the Conference’s
first plenary session in Brussels.
The meeting was held at the COMECE
headquarters in the Belgian capital.
Before the meeting of bishops, the Archbishop of Vienna gave a
speech, giving EU representatives “a realistic outline of the
situation,” because “the social situation in Europe and developments in
the bioethical field are hugely important for the Church and Christians
can offer a significant contribution in these subject areas.”
“The efforts ecclesiastical groups have been engaged in on a European
level - and not just to campaign for work free Sundays - shows that the
EU's influence on social life is constantly growing. As such,
Christians want to have their say and bishops represent their
opinions,” Schoenborn said.
