The Maitland-Newcastle Catholic Diocese says it is
enhancing its services to better support the changing needs of victims
of child sexual abuse by clergy.
Zimmerman House, the church's child protection unit, has moved from
Carrington to Hunter Street, Newcastle West to make it more accessible.
The name has also changed to Zimmerman Services.
Manager of the child protection unit, Sean Tynan says the Diocese has
increased the independence and scope of the role of the co-ordinator
for healing and support.
"It's really about us going to where they want us rather than us asking them to come to see us," he said.
"So we want to reach out more than we were able to in the past.
"We want to go to the places where they're more comfortable than coming to us."
