The bishops in Poland are protesting against the government's liberalisation of abortions.
These are "murder of children in the womb", according to a statement by the Permanent Council of the Bishops' Conference on the Feast of the Ascension (Thursday).
The bishops reaffirmed their rejection of the legalisation of abortions.
The bishops emphasise that Pope Francis also clearly condemned abortion in his recent document"Dignitas infinita" on human dignity.
They criticise the term "termination of pregnancy", as it blurs the seriousness of abortion and plays it down.
"No words have the power to change reality: Abortion is the deliberate and direct elimination of a human being in the early stages of its existence, extending from conception to birth, by whatever means," the bishops said.
The communiqué concludes with a look at the World Children's Day proclaimed by Pope Francis, which aims to recognise and promote the dignity of children and their right to life. All believers should pray for those children "who were never allowed to see the light of day".
It is also important to strengthen the commitment to all human rights, especially the protection of life, from conception to natural death.
