The Diocese of Coimbatore, in India, is encouraging parish priests to
visit with families, in a bid to reverse a trend in which Catholics are
leaving the Church to join other Christian denominations.
Bishop Thomas Lephonse of Coimbatore said that the departure of
Catholic families is “a matter of great concern” for his diocese in the
southern Tamil Nadu state.
He is asking priests to visit Catholic
families and pray with them, “to strengthen the link between the clergy
and the lay faithful, to better know and understand their concerns, to
guide them to grow in faith.”
