Archbishop Luis Augusto Castro Quiroga of Tunja, the president of the
Colombian bishops’ conference, has encouraged President Juan Manuel
Santos to accept proposed changes in a peace agreement with the
Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).
In a closely contested referendum, the people of Colombia voted on
October 2 not to approve the peace accord, sending negotiators back to
the bargaining table.
Since that time, more than 400 proposals have been
submitted for changes in the agreement.
“We ask the president of the republic and the institutions
responsible to accept the contributions that emerge from the various
groups of society to develop this project,” said Archbishop Castro.
