The Archdiocese of Boston has contributed $850,000 to a campaign to
stop the legalization of recreational marijuana use in Massachusetts.
A referendum question on the November ballot in Massachusetts,
Question 4, would allow for legal possession and use of limited
quantities of marijuana.
A spokesman for the archdiocese said that
approval of the measure would have “a significant detrimental impact” on
the work of the Church and the welfare of the community.
The ballot
question ranks “among the highest priorities” for the Church in Boston,
the spokesman said.
