Next 9 November, the Vatican will welcome a group
of policemen from across the world.
Pope Benedict XVI will receive 800
delegates from Interpol, the international criminal police organisation.
They will be accompanied by some interior and justice ministers from
the various countries represented.
After Vietnam in 2011 and before Colombia in 2013,
this year Italy will host the 81st Interpol General Assembly, from 5 to
8 November.
The international meeting will be held at the Hilton Hotel
and will be inaugurated with a ministerial conference that will be
attended by over a hundred interior ministers from Interpol’s 190 member
countries.
The core discussion topic will be the challenges faced by
the police in tackling criminal violence in today’s world.
The Vatican City State became Interpol’s 187th
member in October 2008 at the Interpol General Assembly in St.
Petersburg.
The Vatican Gendarmerie has the task of coordinating the
international organisation and the papal state.
