Hope and faith: Hindus, Catholics to hold dialogue

The Shankaracharya of the Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt, Sri Jayendra Saraswati Swamiji and Sri Sri Ravi Shankar will sit in together with Cardinal Oswald Gracias, Bishop Thomas Dabre and Cardinal Jean-Louis Pierre Tauran of the Vatican for an inter religious dialogue on June 12-13 in the city.

The inter religious dialogue, the largest of its kind in recent times, is being organised by the Catholic Church with a view to spreading understanding among different religious groups in the country.

Cardinal Gracias said there was a need to promote understanding among various religious groups in the country, particularly in the context of the attacks on minorities.

He made a pointed reference to the problems of the Christians in Orissa where thousands of them had to leave their homes in the Khandamals district and live in tents.

Around 1,200 people are expected to participate in two day conference and rally. The first day will be a Hindu Catholic Church Dialogue while the second day will feature an interreligious dialogue and rally with speakers from all major religions in India.

The two day conference will culminate at a public rally at St Mary's Auditorium, Mazagaon on June 13 at 6 pm.

The final prayer will be said by Swami Nikileshwarandaji of the Ramakrishna Mission,Vadodara and Cardinal Tauran, president of the Pontifical Council for Inter religious dialogue at the Vatican.

Among others who will be taking part in the discussions will be Swami Vageeshananda (Ramakrishna Mission) Dadi Janakiji (Prajapati Brahma Kumaris) Swami Nirmalananda Nath (Karnataka), Swami Chidananda Saraswati (president, Divine Life Society, Uttaranchal).
