Archbishop Charles Brown, papal nuncio, will preach at the Church of Ireland's St Anne's Cathedral in Belfast and St Patrick's Cathedral in Armagh.

St Anne's dean John Mann said the important annual occasion marked a coming together of Christians to share gifts in mutual love.

"May this service and that in Armagh the following day be a springboard for future endeavours, weaving together the threads of the past whilst stepping forward in unity and faith," he said.

The service at St Anne's will include Fr Hugh Kennedy, administrator of St Peter's Cathedral, and be attended by the Church of Ireland Bishop of Connor, Alan Abernethy; the Bishop of Down and Dromore, Harold Miller and Catholic bishops Noel Treanor; Donal McKeown and Anthony Farquhar.

Other representatives will include the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church, Dr Rob Craig and senior Methodist cleric Donald Kerr.

The choirs of St Anne's and St Peter's cathedrals will take part.
