Plantu faces lawsuit over Pope Benedict XVI cartoon

A lawsuit was filed against French cartoonist Plantu over a satirical cartoon mocking Pope Benedict XVI.

The cartoon, that appeared on an issue of Le Monde Magazine in April 2010, showed Benedict XVI sexually abusing a child.

The cartoon was entitled 'Paedophilia: The Pope takes position'.

Plantu, and the then editor of newspaper Le Monde, Eric Fottorino, were summoned by a court in Paris after an association close to the Catholic traditionalists, the General Alliance against Racism and for the Respect of French and Christian Identity (Agrif), filed a lawsuit against them.
