FEARS that Tuam could be without a Church of
Ireland Bishop for a year were allayed following a special meeting of
the General Synod of the Church in Dublin last Saturday.
An overwhelming majority, of the 288 people at the special synod,
voted against a bill proposing that the electoral college to appoint a
new Bishop, be delayed.
The diocese of Tuam, Killala and Achonry has no bishop since Richard Henderson left for a new post in the UK in January.
Now Dean of Tuam, Alastir Grimason, says a new bishop may be
appointed as soon as April, allaying fears of the area being left
without a bishop for a year.
