AN influential Catholic bishop has
warned he is considering resigning because the Vatican continues to
ignore the plight of the Australian church.
Canberra-based bishop Pat Power, long an outspoken critic of Rome,
says the Church has retreated from the promising outcomes of the second
Vatican Council.
Catholic clergy normally retire at 75, but Bishop Power has told The Canberra Times he is considering stepping down when he turns 70 next year.
"I
just think it is a shame the potential we had to be a source of
inspiration within the whole community has been diminished," Bishop
Power said.
