New trust to administer 112 Irish Catholic schools

A newly established charitable trust is taking control of 112 Catholic secondary schools in Ireland.

Catholic Education- an Irish Schools Trust (CEIST) will assume control of about one-third of the private schools in Ireland, accounting for nearly 55,000 students.

The schools were formerly administered by 5 religious orders: the Daughters of Charity, the Presentation Sister, Sisters of the Christian Retreat, Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy, and Missionaries of the Sacred Heart.

The orders have appointed representatives to sit on the CEIST board of directors.
