At long last, after all the intrigue etc it seems as if there is not much more waiting to be done before the name of the successor to Bishop Laurence Forristal of the Diocese of Ossory is announced.
The only question outstanding now is who it will be and if they are from within the diocese or as strongly hinted and expected, an outsider parachuted in.
It will be interesting to see how this goes down with the local clergy as there have been rumblings of discontent with the delay in appointing but not only that but also that it would be preferable to have someone from the inside so as to restore and re-ignite confidence in the local church.
No doubt the current incumbent would also love to step down and take a rest from his duties at this juncture, and enjoy a delayed retirement which would be less onerous.
This appointment would be an indicator to the Irish Church and laity alike as to the mindset of the current Pope (as if that is required) but it will certainly be interesting...so Il Papa...get on with it and put us all out of our misery and give us our bishop!!
