I warmly welcome the news today that the Holy Father Pope Francis has
appointed Father Fintan Monahan of the Archdiocese of Tuam as the new
Bishop of Killaloe.
I know from my time as Bishop of Killaloe that Father Fintan will
receive a warm welcome and that the people of the diocese will keep him
in their prayers.
Father Fintan brings many gifts with him to his new role and having
worked for many years as diocesan secretary he is familiar with all that
comes with a busy diocesan office.
In addition to his work in promoting and encouraging vocations to the
priesthood, Father Fintan is recognised as having invested much energy
and leadership in the area of communications and especially in the area
of digital media.
Father Fintan’s gifts and experience will no doubt make a valuable
contribution to the Diocese of Killaloe and to the Church in Ireland. I
look forward to working with Bishop-elect Monahan in the future in the
Irish Bishops’ Conference
I offer my prayerful good wishes today to Father Des Hillery who took
on the role of Diocesan Administrator while administering the busy
parish of Nenagh.
I offer my congratulations today to Father Fintan and to the members
of his family.
I pray God’s blessing on him as he takes up this new
ministry in the Diocese of Killaloe and I assure him of my prayers.
