The Chicago Archdiocese of the Catholic Church is warning its
parishioners that it is about to release details of sexual misconduct of
30 priests.
In a letter sent to parish bulletin editors Cardinal
Francis George says that most of the incidents to be detailed in newly
released documents happened decades ago, and resulted in settlements, the Chicago Tribune reports.
“Painful
though publicly reviewing the past can be, it is part of the
accountability and transparency to which the Archdiocese is committed,”
George’s letter states.
The disclosure of the documents was required under settlement agreements at the insistence of the victims.
