Andrew Cozzens, the bishop who was nearly aborted

http://vaticaninsider.lastampa.it/typo3temp/pics/6f372377aa.jpgLast 11 October Pope Francis appointed 45-year old priest Andrew Cozzens as Auxiliary Bishop of Minneapolis. He had been a priest since 1997 and teaches sacramental theology.

Had the doctors had their way, he would not be alive today, Cozzens’ mother, Judy, told The Catholic Spirit.

The 69-year old woman explained how when she was five months pregnant she started getting strong pains which became to frequent she realised she was going into labour and dashed to hospital.

The doctors managed to stop the labour and the next day they told her she could not go ahead with the pregnancy because “You’re carrying a deformed foetus, and you need to not continue with the pregnancy … You’re carrying a freak, and you shouldn’t continue with this pregnancy.”

Judy refused to abort the child, simply telling doctors: “It’s my baby. And, what God sends us, we’ll take.”

Andrew was born on 3 August 1968, a perfectly normal and healthy baby.

All he has is eczema all over his body and a few allergies.
