A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit that a Colorado woman had filed against a Roman Catholic church in Casper.
U.S. District Judge Alan B. Johnson on Monday dismissed the lawsuit against St. Anthony's Catholic Church, the Diocese of Cheyenne and individual church officials.
In
the lawsuit the woman filed last year, she alleged a deacon had imposed
a sexual relationship on her after she went to him for bereavement
counseling.
The lawsuit claimed the consensual sexual relationship
started in 2007 and continued until 2008.
Johnson
ruled that the church wasn't responsible for any sexual abuse because
it would be outside the scope of the deacon's employment and something
the church couldn't anticipate.
