With a little less than two months to go before the Holy Father’s visit to Mexico and Cuba, Mexico’s Ambassador to the Holy See, Héctor Federico Ling-Altamirano spoke with Vatican Radio about preparations and the climate of expectation that is developing in the country.
“Enthusiasm,” he said, “has been growing in concentric circles, and excitement is now being felt, nationwide.”
He told us of groups of people prepared to travel more than two thousand kilometres – from as far away as Tijuana or Merida – to come and see and hear the Pope in Guanajuato.”
The Ambassador spoke of the sense of expectation among the faithful, who are anxious to learn from the organizers of the pilgrimages how, when and where it will be possible to hear and to see the Holy Father.
The Ambassador went on to say that the Holy Father’s visit is one that promises to be occasion for deep consideration of the importance of the Catholic faith for Mexico.
“On the religious, the sociological and cultural levels,” he said, “the Holy Father’s visit could provide material for a profound reflection on the significance of Catholicism in and for Mexican national life.”
Pope Benedict will be in Mexico from March 23rd to March 25th.
