The new Bishop of Killaloe Dr Kieran O'Reilly (pictured) has praised the role of the youth in his diocese. Speaking on a recent visit to Saint Mary of the Rosary Church in Nenagh in County Tipperary and a special ceremony for some of the twenty parishes in the Diocese of Killaloe east of the River Shannon, Dr O'Reilly said that it was time for new beginnings in many different ways.
Evoking the gospel he said that if he were, “to ask for one thing it would be, in the Diocese of Killaloe to fan into a great flame as described by Saint Paul, the many gifts each one of us had received in the Holy Spirit.”
“Having done that we would be able to burn with the passion of the Gospel.”
He added that his great prayer is that young people will be a part in the diocese and that, “their energy and their passion will be fanned into a flame so that they can bear witness to the Gospel in the world in which we live.”
“The Gospel was always about hearing, listening and going. It was not something simply to be kept inside. It was to be spread and if there was one thing I would beg for in our lives it would be that we rediscover the power and the strength of the Word of God.”
