Pope Benedict XVI to visit France

The Conference of Bishops of France is pleased to announce that Pope Benedict XVI has accepted an invitation to come to France on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady of Lourdes.

He will be in France from Friday, September 12 to Monday, September 15, 2008.

On September 12 in Paris, after meeting with State officials, His Holy Father will participate in a conference at the Collège des Bernardins. He will later celebrate vespers at the the Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral and present a message to the youth assembled on the square of the cathedral.

On the 13th, Pope Benedict XVI will hold mass on the esplanade of Invalides. In the afternoon he will depart for Lourdes to carry out the three first stages of the Route of the Jubilee. That evening, at the end of a torch procession, he will address the pilgrims.

On Sunday, September 14, he will hold mass for the pilgrims. In the afternoon, he will meet with the Bishops conference and conclude the Eucharistic procession. He will return to Rome on Monday, September 15.

On the occasion of his stay in France, the Pope wishes to meet with the leaders of other Christian denominations and representatives of Jewish and Muslim communities.
