Pope Benedict XVI has made 2 new appointments to Vatican posts: a secretary for the Prefecture of Economic Affairs and a protocol chief for the Secretariat of State.
On September 3 the Vatican announced that Msgr. Vincenzo Di Mauro, who has been serving at the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See (APSA), will become secretary of the Prefecture of Economic Affairs for the Holy See.
Born in Milan in 1951, Msgr. Di Mauro was ordained in 1976, and served there until 1994, when he joined the staff of the Pontifical Council for the Laity.
He returned to Milan in 1998, but was summoned back to Rome to work at APSA in 2004.
On September 4 the Vatican announced that Msgr. Fortunatus Nwachukwu, a Nigerian priest who has served in the Secretariat of State since 1994, will become chief protocol officer there.
Msgr. Nwachukwu was born in Ntigha, Nigeria, in 1960, and ordained in 1984.
After further studies in theology he joined the Vatican diplomatic corps, and has served in Ghana, Paraguay, Algeria, and UN offices in Geneva.
