Parish Priest Advised To Appeal Speed Limit At West Clare Church Accident Blackspot

The local authority is being urged to take action to prevent a potential fatality at an accident blackspot in West Clare.

It follows a number of recent incidents near Ballycorrick Church on the main Ennis to Kildysart Road in Ballynacally.

Ballycorrick church is located just after a blind bend and the frequent collisions have prompted Parish Priest Fr Raymond Coyne to raise the matter with elected representatives.

The speed limit on the local road remains 80 kilometres per hour, as it was not affected by the recent speed limit review.

Local Independent Councillor Dinny Gould has brought it to the attention of West Clare Municipal District at its latest meeting and he says a reduced speed limit or car parking is required.

In response the West Clare MD has advised Parish Priest Fr Brendan Kyne to make a speed limit appeal, as the local authority doesn’t have plans to reduce speed limits there and the area is not scheduled for a low-cost safety scheme.

Speaking on Clare FM’s Morning Focus, Chairperson of the Ballycorrick Church Pastoral Council, Mary Sheehan says there’s been a number of close calls and action is needed.

It’s not the only part of the county facing the problem.

Cratloe Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat O’Gorman fears there could be a fatality without some form of traffic calming at the village cross.
