The destruction of the cross placed at the entrance of the cave on the
Ngock Lituba mountain (in Sanaga-Maritime, Cameroon) marks the beginning
of the activities of a fundamentalist movement that wants to return to
local religious traditions.According to the Cameroonian newspaper "Le Messager" the establishment of this movement called Mbog Bassa intends to eradicate all other beliefs which do not belong to tradition.
The destruction of the Ngock Lituba cross (which means "pierced rock") is a highly symbolic gesture, because this mountain is considered sacred in the local tradition, and not everyone had enjoyed the erection of the cross there.
According to the newspaper, the new movement intends to proceed in the destruction of places of worship, such as churches and mosques. It then intends to destroy all Western symbolism and replace them with local ones.
Finally, according to "The Messager", the movement wants to attack the Cameroonian Western-style educational system in order to question philosophies and western science, religious freedom and the secular State.
