Chile and Peru are an example to the world in how to resolve
international disputes, the president of the Peruvian Episcopal
Conference said after the International Court of Justice rendered a
decision in a maritime border dispute.
The two nations turned to the court to resolve the disagreement.
“It is the first time that we look for solutions without weapons,
without protest, but through dialogue, reflection and responsibility,”
said Archbishop Salvador Piñeiro, according to a Fides news agency
report. “If it had been easy, we would not have gone to court.”
“The people of Peru and Chile are interested in further strengthening
bilateral relations, because they both love freedom, they believe in
democracy and justice,” he added.
