New safeguarding head for Scotland

http://www.scottishcatholicsafeguarding.org.uk/Portals/0/MediaFlashBackground-New2.jpgThe Scottish Bishops' Conference has announced a new national coordinator for safeguarding.

Tina Campbell, who is currently head of counselling services for the Sandyford Initiative, part of Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS trust, will take up the post in December.

She has also been safeguarding advisor to the Diocese of Motherwell.

The bishops are also expected to commission an independent investigation of clerical sexual abuse files going back 60 years.

In a letter to The Tablet last month the former Archbishop of Glasgow Mario Conti claimed that an inquiry into historical cases of sex abuse in Scotland had been blocked by Cardinal Keith O'Brien, then president of the Scottish Bishops' Conference.
