Bahrain to build Gulf's largest Catholic church

Bahrain will become the Catholic church's hub in the GulfThe Bahraini Information Affairs Authority has announced that construction has begun on the largest Roman Catholic church in the Arab Gulf.

The church is being built in Awali in central Manama on a 9,000m2 plot of land.

Once the church has been completed, Bishop Camillo Ballin is to transfer the seat of the Roman Catholic Church's Vicariate of Northern Arabia from Kuwait to Bahrain.

There are around two million Roman Catholics in the Gulf region.
