Vatileaks case becomes a film

The French film-maker Laurent Herbiet is making a film on behind-the-scenes events in the Vatican which will start shooting  in a year’s time.

Italian journalist Gianluigi Nuzzi will be consulted on the4 content.

The news was revealed to French media by Loull Production,  the production company that is in charge of the project, in association with Conchita Airoldi of Italian production company Urania Pictures.

Cast members include Kristin Scott Thomas, André Dussollier and Sergi Lopez, as well as a high-profile Italian actor, whose name has not yet been revealed. Shooting will take place in Rome and Switzerland.

The production team explained that the film would be a “political thriller” set in the Vatican “at a crucial moment in time: the Pope is dying. Whoever takes over the throne will reign over one of the most powerful and elusive financial institutions in existence.”

As the war of succession rages “a woman tries to shed light on her son’s death, a young Swiss Guard.”

Herbiet co-wrote the scripts for Alain Resnais’ last two films, “Les Herbes folles” and “’Vous n’avez encore rien vu”.

In 2011 he produced his first feature film entitled “Mon colonel”, on the war in Algeria.
