Archbishop Diarmuid Martin of Dublin has welcomed three new deacons to the Irish Dominicans.
During a ceremony at St Saviour's Church in Dominick St on January 2,
Dr Martin led the ordinations of Maurice Colgan OP, Brian Doyle OP and
Denis Murphy OP and described their ordinations as ''a moment of hope''
for renewal not just in the Dominican order, but the Irish Church.
''You as deacons and as future priests,'' Dr Martin said, ''as
ministers of the Word are called to a special leadership role in that
process of renewal. In particular you are called to share your own
relationship with the Lord with young people.''
Caution
Cautioning the young men that their mission would not be ''an easy
one'', the archbishop added: ''Do not be afraid: to those who remain
faithful, who accept him, who are ministers and servants of his Word,
Jesus does something that we cannot attain on our own. In Jesus alone we
encounter grace and truth, we become children of God.
Deacons Maurice, Brian and Denis, who have already studied at
Maynooth, Oxford in Britain and Fribourg in Switzerland will now
continue their studies towards priesthood.
