Pope Benedict XVI has added two events to his schedule for the
Christmas season: a lunch on December 26 for people under the care of
the Missionaries of Charity; and a visit to the Gemelli hospital on
January 5.
The December 26 luncheon will be held in the Paul VI auditorium at the
Vatican, to accommodate a crowd of people from centers in Rome run by
the Missionaries of Charity.
The event will Blessed Mother Teresa of
Calcutta, the founder of the religious order; this year marks the 100th
anniversary of her birth.
During his visit to the Gemelli hospital the Holy Father will visit the
children’s ward, and help distribute presents to the children on the eve
of Little Christmas.
He will also bless a new unit for the care of
children born with spina bifida.
