Pope Benedict's Prayer Intentions for September 2009

Each month, Pope Benedict XVI announces his special prayer intentions—particular things that he wishes all Catholics to pray for that month.

(When, for instance, we pray the rosary and say the prayers at the end for the intentions of the Holy Father, these are the intentions for which we're praying.)

Pope Benedict offers two intentions every month, one general, and one for a particular Catholic missionary activity.Pope Benedict's general prayer intention for September 2009 is "That the word of God may be better known, welcomed and lived as the source of freedom and joy," and his mission intention is "That Christians in Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar, who often meet with great difficulties, may not be discouraged from announcing the Gospel to their brothers, trusting in the strength of the Holy Spirit."

Like last month's intentions, these appear to be linked.

The answer to the persecution of Christians in non-Christian countries, the Holy Father seems to be saying, is the brave proclamation of the Gospel, which transforms lives and bring about true freedom.

By living our lives in the fullness of the Gospel, we can bring others to Christ and change the world for the better.
