Pope Benedict XVI met in a private audience on February 21 with the rector of Rome's La Sapienza university, Professor Renato Guarini. In January, when noisy student protests prompted the Pope to cancel a scheduled appearance at La Sapienza, the rector-- who had adamantly refused to retract his invitation to the Pope, despite demands from 67 faculty members-- promised that he would extend another invitation to the Pontiff for a later appearance.
But according to the Italian daily La Repubblica, Guarini did not offer a return invitation to the Pope at the Thursday-morning meeting. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
