Nathan Carter's Christmas concert in Boyle cancelled after new parish priest raises concerns

A Nathan Carter concert, planned for the catholic church in Boyle, has been cancelled after concerns were raised by the new parish priest.

It's understood he objects to some musical events being held in churches.

Carter, a country music star, was due to play a Christmas concert in St Joseph's Church in Boyle on December 13th.

It was sanctioned to proceed by the former long-serving parish priest, Fr Gerry Hanly, who retired in August, on the basis it would be appropriate music for a church.

Tickets were put on the sale by Carter's team, who said it would be "an unforgettable live show in the beautiful St Joseph's Church".

After Fr Hanly retired on August 14th, he was replaced as Boyle parish priest by Fr John Gannon.

It's understood Fr Gannon objects to some music concerts being held in a House of God, and the event has now been cancelled.

Both Fr Hanly and Fr Gannon declined to comment.

In a statement, Nathan Carter said: "We were extremely disappointed to get a phone call from Fr John in Boyle to say that we couldn't run the concert in December, especially as it had already been agreed and tickets on sale.

"We're very sorry to disappoint anyone who has purchased tickets, but we will be issuing a full refund on same."
