The leader of the Catholic Church in Ireland has called on the Government to introduce a minister for marriage over the country’s declining marriage rates and the worrying number of incidents of domestic violence towards women.
Archbishop Eamon Martin said he would like to see “a full-scale promotion of marriage” both civil and religious because marriage is “good for children, good for couples, and it’s good for society”.
