It was with sadness that I learned of the death of Bishop Martin Drennan, Emeritus Bishop of Galway and Kilmacduagh and Apostolic Administrator of Kilfenora Diocese.
Bishop Martin was ordained as a priest of Ossory Diocese in 1968 and ministered in a number of parishes and lectured in Sacred Scripture in Saint Kieran’s College, Kilkenny.
Following further studies Bishop Martin again lectured Sacred Scripture in Saint Patrick’s College, Maynooth, and in so doing gifted a love of the Holy Bible and a deep knowledge of the Lord to successive generations of students.
I was fortunate to be one of those and I recall fondly his deep reflective and warm nature.
In his service as Bishop he continued to share this deep love, and his immense knowledge, of Scripture with all he encountered.
As Apostolic Administrator of Ossory I know well of Bishop Martin’s love for his native home; and in which he is still very much fondly remembered as a loyal son.
I pray on my behalf, and that of Bishop-elect Niall Coll, along with the priests, religious and people of Ossory, that the good Lord will reward Bishop Martin for a lifetime of faithful, humble, service.
