Voters in the country have backed a move to have marriage recognised as that between a man and a women in the constitution.
Following the gathering of some 740,000 signatures to force the
referendum towards protecting traditional marriage, the Catholic group
In the Name of the Family was backed by 66% of those who voted last
weekend.
The Catholic Church backed the aims of the referendum, which
will now see marriage defended as between a man and woman until and
unless at least two-thirds of parliamentarians vote for a change.
