Sad at Benedict XVI’s resignation: Dalai Lama
Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI’s decision to quit must be realistic and some sort of greater benefit to concerned people, said the Dalai Lama.
“Firstly, I am sad at his resignation. I know him, he is intelligent. I pray his remaining life still will be very useful and successful for all," he said.
The Dalai Lama expressed hope that the former pontiff will continue to be available for the benefit of the people despite his resignation.
The Dalai Lama was speaking at the first annual convocation of Central university of Himachal Pradesh at Shapur near Dharamshala, where he was conferred with an honorary degree of Doctor of Philosophy.
Speaking about the importance of education, the Dalai Lama said that education is a must to strengthen the mental knowledge.
"Educational institutes should not ignore the ancient values during the modernization of education," he added.
He said that the present education system is unable to provide most needed mental peace.
