Eight months after Ettore Gotti Tedeschi was dismissed as president
of the Vatican bank, his successor has still not been appointed and
Tedeschi’s dismissal remains controversial. Andrea Tornielli of La Stampa suggests that a new president will not be chosen for the Institute for Religious Works until after the Vatican appoints new members to the commission of cardinals who supervise the institution.
The current members of that commission will see their terms expire on February 23.
The new appointments could consolidate the control exerted over the bank by the Secretariat of State.
