There has been a mixed reaction from Guernsey's church leaders to proposals to bring down the gay age of consent.It is currently 18 and politicians are debating later this month whether it should be changed to 16, the same as for heterosexuals, on equality grounds.
The leader of the Methodist Church in Guernsey David Hart said he supported the proposed change.
However, Father Michael Hore, Catholic Dean of Guernsey, said he "doesn't go along with it at age 18 or 16".
Mr Hart said: "It's important people are treated the same regardless of their gender, sexual orientation or racial background."
The Anglican Dean of Guernsey Paul Mellor said he would not comment on the issue until after the States debate.
Politicians are due to have their say in the meeting that starts on 24 March.
