The president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops said he's "quite sure" that Pope Benedict will apologize for the church sex-abuse crisis during next week's papal visit to Washington and New York.
Chicago's Cardinal Francis George said that Benedict is deeply troubled that "children have been abused by priests or bishops."
George calls it "a complete betrayal of our own office and of Jesus Christ and of our Catholic people."
He added that Benedict likely will express "deep pastoral concern for the victims," although the pope isn't scheduled to meet with them.
On CNN's "Late Edition," the president of Catholic University of America, Father David O'Connell, predicted that Benedict will mention the scandal, but will focus more on the future than the past.
Benedict has a busy schedule planned for his visit, including services and public appearances in both cities.
