US Lutheran group weighs same-sex unions

A task force set up by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) to study same-sex marriage has concluded that the denomination cannot reach a clear consensus on the issue.

In light of continuing questions, the task force "does not favor" approval of homosexual marriages, the 50-page report said.

Instead the group suggested that discussion should continue on the question.

For now, the report said, the norm for marriage should remain a male-female union.

The draft report did say that ECLA leaders should offer their apologies for the suffering caused among homosexuals by past Lutheran teachings condemning homosexual activities. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
