Pope Benedict XVI met on March 10 with Brother Alois, the leader of the ecumenical Taize community.
The Holy Father was continuing a pattern established by his predecessor, Pope John Paul II, who met each year with Brother Roger, the founder of the ecumenical community in France.
Speaking to Vatican Radio after his talk with the Pontiff, Brother Alois said that the regular meetings with the Pope were a source of great encouragement to the Taize community and an aid in attracting young people, who saw the meetings as an indication of communion with the Church.
