The Rome Prosecutor's Office has requested the indictment of an 81-year-old Spanish priest-journalist on charges of sexual assault against a 40-year-old colleague.
Prosecutors contest the suspect under the provision of paragraph 3, which refers to 'less serious' cases.
The incident dates back to the days of the Conclave for the election of the new Pope.
According to the investigators' reconstruction, the priest invited the colleague to his Roman residence and attempted a sexual approach.
The case covers the time frame between Pope Francis's hospitalization and the white smoke for Leo XIV.
A friendship developed between the two, also linked to work and events to follow during that particularly complex period.
On April 16, the priest invited the 40-year-old to his home in the center of the capital for an aperitif, a night that passed without issues.
On May 23 - according to what was later reported by the victim - a new invitation came from the 81-year-old.
An evening that took a decidedly different turn from the previous one, with the priest repeatedly approaching the younger colleague with advances that the 40-year-old, however, rejected.
