The newly elected leader of the world’s Jesuits sees inter-religious dialogue and work with migrants as top priorities.Father Arturo Sosa, the Venezuelan priest who was elected on October 14 as the 31st superior general of the Society of Jesus, reminded reporters that the general congregation that elected him was still discussing the proper priorities for future work.
But he referred back to the last general congregation, in 2008, which had listed dialogue, work with migrants, and the fight against poverty as top items on the Jesuit agenda.
Father Sosa said that the current crisis in his native Venezuela is an example of the need for dialogue, saying that the government says failed “to build bridges” to unify the country.
