Local leaders in the Catholic Church are hosting a series
of events to express opposition to the death penalty. Omaha Archbishop George Lucas kicked off an event Monday called Catholic Voices Against the Death Penalty.
It's a series of appearances by people who have been exonerated from death row to discuss why Capitol punishment should remain against the law in Nebraska.
The event was held at the Saint Cecilia Cathedral Parish Center.
Speeches are also planned in Lincoln and Grand Island.
