Kenny tells church officials abortion on demand ruled out

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has told the Dáil he has emphasised to representatives from the Catholic Church that there was never any intention to introduce abortion on demand.

The Taoiseach was responding to questions from TDs about whether he would legislate for cases of fatal foetal abnormality and his contacts with the church on the matter.

Richard Boyd Barrett said he had had a daughter with such a condition and he found it absolutely beyond belief that the Government did not intend to do anything at all.

In response to a question from Joe Higgins, the Taoiseach said his own personal relationship with the Catholic Church was very solid and very clear. 

He said he had and continues to have a good relationship with the Catholic Church.
