In advance of the launch, which was attended by representatives from every Parish Pastoral Council, Bishop O'Reilly said he regarded the permanent diaconate as ''vital'' in helping to address the pastoral needs of the diocese and invited prayers for a good response ''to the call to this particular ministry of service.''
Deacons
Those who wish to be deacons must be aged between 35 and 60 at the start of their programme of formation and it is hoped that the first group of permanent deacons will be ordained in June 2014.
