Priest Who Stole From Church Seeks House Arrest

One of two priests who stole money from their Delray Beach church is asking to be released on house arrest.

According to court records, a defense attorney has filed a motion stating that the Rev. John Skehan, 81, wants to serve his sentence under house arrest so he can receive treatment for prostate cancer.

Skehan also suffers from severe depression.

Skehan was sentenced to a 14-month prison term in March after pleading guilty to first-degree grand theft for stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church to fund a lavish lifestyle.

The Rev. Francis Guinan was also sentenced to four years in prison and ordered to pay $99,999 in restitution.
