Pope Benedict has appointed prominent Italian liturgist Father Manlio Sodi, SDB as the new president of the Pontifical Academy of Theology.
In 2007, noted blogger Father John Zuhlsdorf criticized Father Sodi for writing a “ghastly pamphlet against Summorum Pontificum,” Pope Benedict’s motu proprio on the extraordinary form of the Mass.
Pope Clement XII founded the Pontifical Academy of Theology in 1718, and Pope John Paul II revised its statutes in the 1999 motu proprio Inter Munera Academiarum.
The academy publishes an academic journal twice a year and holds a symposium every other year.
